If you want trout: Deatonville / Grand Lake area / Big Lake

If you want mixed bag and socializing: Grand Isle or Point Fourchon

If you want redfish mostly: Delacroix

If you want best mixed bag fish and don’t care about social / restaurants: Venice

If you want to get away from crowds / good value: east point la hache

If you don’t mind crossing out of LA / Dauphin Island
(short drive / good fishing / nice beach )

I have had friends with camps on the beach in GI. Some were VERY nice. But if you really want to fish, it was kind of annoying to go launch.

I grew up fishing out of Cocodrie. Pretty much everyone has a spot on the Bayou. Very nice to have. I don't know if I'd want a camp that didn't have water access.

Southern Comfort in Dulac is pretty awesome.

I don't think that will get you a trailer on grand isle anymore.

Leeville and Fourchon have so many options (marsh, bays, close-in rigs, and bluewater) a short boat ride away.

Venice has everything all the other places have and more of it. The drive to Venice is much easier than to GI from NOLA. I don't know if there are still deer in Delta refuge but I'm sure there are pigs. Anywhere in delicroix is private land so hunting is limited without a lease. Fishing options are limited only by your boat and fuel budget.

My friend had a camp on Camp Canal off of Grand Pass when we were kids (it was the same place the guy shot over the head of the redfish cup boat). Katrina sucked the pilings out the ground unfortunately.

I have a couple of camps in Dulac--one on the bayou and one on the road. I love the area for trout but there is nothing else going on there.

Grand Isle has lots going on. bars, grocery, restaurants, beaches. fishing isnt bad. island feel. nice arse camps. pricey.

Cocodrie is a little in between Dulac and GI.

Venice is awesome but fishing is very dependent on the river, but it has all of the fishing and hunting you could ever want.

I know shite about shell beach.

You have to decide what you want--solitude, amenities, short drive, etc.

100% this for me. Top notch trout fishing, awesome duck hunting, only a few hours from my house, some golf and the Nugget is not far away.....

A few people mentioning deer and Venice. I would bet most people would not enjoy deer hunting down there. It's definitely not easy to kill them down there.

As for fishing, Venice has the biggest variety but like another poster said, it's dependent on the river. For trout it can be hit or miss but for redfish it's probably the best in the state. It really depends on what fish you are going to target.
