Used H&K USP if you can find one at that price. If not then a glock or Springfield XD

May not be the "best" but definitely an affordable one.

I have a .45 glock. it's all about personal preference IMO and what someone is willing to pay for and what that extra $200 plus could mean to them.

I have a Sig 229 SAS, HK USP, and a Beretta PX4 Storm, all in 40. The storm was about $500 and I actually like it best of the three.

I have the S&W Sigma .40. The only complaint I have is the heavy trigger pull. Other than that, it is a great gun. I've put around 1000 rounds through it without a single misfire. Great gun for the price.

You're right. I don't go out and shoot my mine so it's just in case some dumbass wants to step foot in my apartment.

Academy has the Glock 23 40SW on sale for $479 right now. Pretty good deal.

I have a Beretta PX4 .40 caliber that I got off of Gunbroker for $400 two years ago. Great gun.

I also have a Beretta 96 Brigadier INOX in .40 caliber and I love that thing, although it was $545. I shoot the ever loving crap out that gun on a consistent basis and it's my favorite hand gun that I own.

Glock hands down. If you don't believe me, then what about the thousands of men and women who choose the Glock when thier life depends on it. Several Police and Military Special Forces use Glock by choice and everyone I've talked to said it's because they are dependable and shoot good.

I am fairly certain that our military does not issue Glocks.

Not trying to bash on Glocks as I own a 26 and love it.

Just bought a Glock 40 Gen 4 today. Paid 599. As somebody else said though, Academy has it on sale for 479. That is the Gen 3 though. But there is not a whole lot different.
One place I would look though is budsgunshop.com. Good deals and good selection
