Colt won the Marine Corps 1911 contract

Slight hijack, but a Marine 1911 csb... My buddy buys a Colt Special Combat Government off gunbroker. When he receives it it has the wrong box as well as different grips and night sites. He calls Colt and they tell him to send the entire pistol back and they will refit it in the Custom Shop (the Special Combat Government is a custom shop gun). He says I'll save everybody some trouble and keep this one if you'll sell me a Marine 1911. Needless to say, he receives it next week.

Then why are you attacking/questioning my post touting Vickers when you have your own version of Vickers in Hilton Yam?

I will admit I don't know anything about Hilton Yam.

I don't have a dog in the fight but if the guy is on Wilson's payroll wouldn't he be obligated (by financial reasons)to say they make the best product?

The way I'm reading him is that one man's opinion (no matter who that man is), is just an opinion. It is not concrete evidence that

Wilson Combat and it isn't even close.

Which is why I brought up the chicken or the egg. It is my understanding that he was touting WC before they ever paid him to do so. It makes sense that they would put him on the payroll.

But my point was that the opinion of a guy like Vickers means more than just some guy that happens to like 1911's. Take it or leave it but I respect Vickers' opinion.

I see what you're saying; Vickers would be considered an "expert witness", basically.

Certainly his background would give weight to his remarks.

That's fine. The problem is the word "best" is a very hard thing to argue when talking about something like this.

Ding ding ding!

I'm certainly not attacking you. Sorry if it came off that way. But as a person that has owned at least two of every semi custom maker out there in the last 20 yrs of my 1911 buying, there is nothing Wilson does that makes it hands down the best 1911 in existence. Everyone will have their opinions though.

had to post this because i was reading this thread a few days ago and today while working diligently on work stuff my browser somehow, on its own, found Best 1911 Rail Guns at Every Price Point. it was posted on the same day. obviously it's not definitive but it's still a nice list.

You don't use a nice 1911 for home defense. Not that it wouldn't do the job but do you really want the cops confiscating your baby for evidence?

No not a nice one but I have Springfield beside the bed along with three other guns throughout the house. Thought you were saying it isn't a good home defense gun bc of caliber or capacity etc.
