Has anyone ever put in on bayou manchac and just floated and fished it around Santa Maria? Looks pretty and like is would be FULL of bream and Sac-a-lait. Have often wanted to put in on perkins, and just go around santa maria and get picked up around highland road where it come out by Healing place church.

Anyone ever done it? Results. How deep.

Thanks

This guy has been clearing Baton Rouge waterways for paddling for the past few years. He has some great maps on that site + launch sites.

Haven't fished it, but have seen lots of choupique. Tried to paddle out to Barringer Foreman once, but there were rocks across the bayou at Highland Rd. That was during the 4 lane bridge construction on Highland.

I don't think you were in Bayou Manchac. It doesn't cross Highland Road or Barringer Foreman. It follows Bayou Manchac Road, crosses under I-10 and Perkins, goes down the side of Santa Maria, then follows Hwy 42

Correct. The confluence with Bayou Manchac is the opposite direction.

Bayou Manchac runs along the southeast side of Santa Maria and Ward Creek runs along the north side of Santa Maria and dumps into Bayou Manchac right there on the northeast corner.

I've put my boat in the Amite and tracked back as far as I can.

There is a group trying to get a launch set up at Alligator Bayou for people to paddle out of.

Bayou Manchac runs along the right side of holes 1, 2, 3 and 18 only. Wards Creek feeds into Bayou Manchac after the 3rd hole. You would be paddling up Wards Creek to get to Highland.

Back in the early 80's, we floated from Bluebonnet to Manchac, then had to paddle upstream to get to the Old Perkins Road bridge.

I wouldn't expect much more than a bunch of trash fish around there.

If you want to try it, try putting in at Old Perkins and taking out at Old Jefferson on the other side of Airline.

In the 80s when I was in college we did Manchac in a canoe. We caught a few perch and green trout, no sacalait. There were also choupique and gar in there. We floated for squirrels a few times, too. Back then Alligator Bayou had more water and had better and easier fishing, so we didn't fish B. Manchac much.
