I brought a broken Beretta 3901 to them that wouldn't cycle shells correctly. They unscrewed the magazine cap and took off the magazine cover, worked the action a couple of times and told me I needed to clean it and that was what was wrong. Took 7 minutes of their time and they charged me $25 for basically just looking at my gun. I then wasted my own time cleaning the gun three times on their recommendation (and then bringing it to a range to test it each time) before finally taking it to Jim's where they determined that a piece of the trigger assembly was broken and fixed it for $45.

Eta: I'm not going back to barking irons ever again.

Way too much.

There us a guy on here that charges $10, if I remember correctly. Sultzer firearms?

$25 to get advice that I need to clean it? They would have never seen that money.

I needed a small spring fixed on my Remington 1100. I got it back and the bluing was gouged where they clamped a tool onto it. They didn't even attempt to make it right. Haven't been back. Not planning to go back

transfers now. They used to charge $25 per FFL transfer (which was rather high) and were open until 5 PM (which is why I was willing to pay extra for their service), but no longer. Chad has moved his location to the back of the same shopping center. I suspect prime rent was too high.

Anyway, he has lost my business after many years because he won't be open until 5 PM and is charging too much for transfer fee now.

I used Sulzer Firearms to sell a gun and do a FFL transfer. A buddy at work used him for a FFL transfer. Good guy and would recommend.

You have many choices in the greater BR metro area. Pawn shops dont charge $40.

If you dont like $40 FFL fee you are free to go elsewhere. Capitalism at work my brotha.

Hows Advanced Weapon Systems? I read recommendations for them before and the FFL fee is $15. I have an item coming to them soon.

I tried to use him several years ago and he never faxed his FFL in despite multiple attempts so I gave up on him. He operates out of a closet in his restaurant supply business on Airline Hwy. He offers the cheapest FFL prices in BR. Very nice guy, but incompetent, from my one-time experience. Wish you well.

I used sultzer and was happy. I've used advanced weapon systems too, amd was pleased. The big advantage aws has is that it's an actual store (kind of) and you can drop by whenever you want. You have to set up a time with sultzer to meet him at his place off college. Both are cheap and both went well. So, it's just personal preference.

Thanks for the kind words fellas. Good news, I'm going full time with the FFL/SOT! I am currently working on setting the shop up. I should be opened in 3 weeks. So, no more appointments. Stop by any time, and transfers will still only be $10/gun. New place is going to be off Seigen on Cedar Park. I'll still be operating at my old place until my new license comes in. For those looking to setup a transfer:

Barking Irons also stole their name and logo from someone else. Even the font is the same on some stuff.

I wasn't impressed with Advanced Weapons Systems. I went to check them out while ordering something online, he kept trying to talk me into buying something different instead. Kind of poor-talked my choice.

I know what I'm looking for, and why. And I even took the trouble of saying "no, I'm not interested in that, I want ___ and here's why", and he kept up his crap.

Found and used Sulzer instead, and was very pleased. It's great to hear that he's gonna get his own shop set up.
