bank fishing old hwy 1 and parking?

I just read several threads on here about bank fishing on old hwy 1. As I am mapping out many of the suggested spots I have noticed that the parking looks really tight on the side of the road.
Is this something that people just deal with and drivers know to look for cars? I imagine most people bring trucks/SUVs and almost every spot I look at, the cars would either be be very close to the road or partially overlapping it.

Some spots have more room than others. If your looking at a satellite picture it looks small but up close you realize you have more space.

Thanks for the reply!
So unless its obviously not a good place to park (e.g., a bridge) then parking along side the rideway is accepted? I have never been down there for fishing but reading this board has me really interested in doing so.

Absolutely. Although I think they are working on the culver bridges right now.

Care to share a few of those? I plan to get a kayak at some point but I'm stuck on the bank until then.
I've been doing some Google mapping for myself and looking for spots right off 1 that look good to me but I'd appreciate some reports.

I bank fish down there and tear them up. Parking is easy.

If you're bringing young kids, HWY 1 should probably be avoided.
Drive a few minutes further, and go to the Elmer's Isle area. You can actually drive your car onto the beach there.

fishing1 - here's the key to getting started down there - get some live bait if you can at Gail's, Terry's or Coastal. You probably cannot get any right now, definitely no shrimp, but maybe can find minnows.
Get off the new bridge at the old HWY 1 exit. Take a left (there are spots to the right as well), and stop at any spot with water moving either under the road or around points in the marsh/canal along the road.
Work your way down towards Fourchon in this manner. On Hwy 1 between Fourchon and Grand Isle, some of the road spots have very narrow parking, but by the bridges it's usually wide enough. Also hit Elmer's island.
ETA - in response to your initial question, most of the old HWY 1 has sufficient room to pull well off the road. If you don't feel comfortable, don't stop in a spot. Those semis haul arse.
