I qui fishing about 5 years ago due to my back, and had to sell my hot rod Shadow 200VT. I just bought a Stratos 289FS and am getting back into it, as it's slow and heavy enough that it doesn't kill me. Most of my gear is old and I was lookign at getting a few new reels. I have a limited budget and was wondering if there is anything better than This Daiwa Lexa 100for 70.00 ?

Reels will be used for t-rigged and weightless soft plastics, maybe some topwater. Light weight is a must as my old crippled arse fatigues easier than before so no round reels.

Lews has a couple for < $100. The one closer to $100 is much better than the $80 one.

I'll check out the Lews, thanks. Judging by your username, do you have an opinion on this Citica 200-G7

They're awesome reels I have 3, however a 5:1 ratio is a little slower than I like now.

My closest Acadamy is 70 miles away, I have personally never been there. I saw this Lews Speed Spool for 69.98 also. It's a 7:1 ratio. Of those three would it basically be a wash and just personal preference ?

The Daiwa at Gander Mtn is local to me so returns would be a lil easier, but that's not a deal breaker. The newest reel I own is a BPS Extreme bought 10 years ago. How would these compare ?

If you live near Bham, swing by Marks and pick up some sales. You can get great reels for a good price.

I don't know what you're looking to spend.

Of the 3 reels (Citica, Lew's, Daiwa) that retail normally for ~$120 range the Lew's is the nicest I've used. $100 Lew's is about the same as a Citica.

I am 2 hours from Birmingham in the Shoals area. I would love to spend around 70.00 if I can get something decent for that. I don't fish tourneys, and don't need the latest greatest. Just a smooth reliable reel that won't spend more time in the shop than on the water.

I'm buying a Citica 201 G6 at recommendation of board on good academy deal.
It's only while supplies last though, so spooner the better

I would go to academy and look at some of the 50-70 dollar ones. I have a couple pinnacles I got from there that have been good.

Just save up a few extra dollars and get the new curado, you won't be disappointed.

I used to be all shimano. I had two citica's have the same issue with the breaking system not working. Spent a lot of time with Shimano customer service and sending reels back. Dan Thorburn and I had many a conversation. Great people at shimano, I eventually sold all my shimano reels though.

Now I'm all pflueger. Been that way for almost 10 years now. I probably spend 75 days on the water per year give or take and have had zero issues with pflueger. Very underrated imo.

My Citicas have all been solid, my only complaint is the gear ratio, when throwing a crank bait or spinner bait. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

Spend a little extra and buy a Curado. I've got Curado's that are 10-15 years old that still work great. There are other good reel companies out there (Lews, Abu, etc...), but I've never had a reason to buy anything other than a Shimano.

If you are not in a huge rush, look around on CL and Ebay and you can probably pick up an undisputed GOAT E series Curado for $100
