Baitcasing Reel for Reds
Posted by voros79 on 8/11/16 at 2:00 pm01
Looking into buying a bait caster that I can use to fish for reds. Is there anything decent for around $100-$150 ? Anyone use Pflueger reels? Thanks

I have Lews Speed Spool and Shimano Citica. Both are around $100.
Lost my Curado Bantam. Still stings.

Some people will scoff but for a reel below $150 that is gonna see saltwater I would buy two H2O express mettles and call it a day. Those things are like tanks and very smooth for something in lower price range.

revo inshore is my favorite. it can be had on ebay for 180ish. its a 250 reel from cabelas. 7.1 gear ratio and 20lbs drag at 7.1 oz.

The older Curado. I depend on accuracy and length. I've been using the same four Curados for 6 years now. When I do buy, it will be the chronarch as its basically the old curado

Shimano Citica
I have a couple Citicas that are finicky in salt water, step up to the Curado and have had much more success with it.

A cool $230
I want to try one but I can't seem to convince myself to spend it, especially since my Citica, Chronarch MG, and Curado E Series that I just tuned are functioning perfectly. I don't think I have $230 tied up in all three of those.
The Concept A reels can be had near the OPs price range though.

I third the h2o mettles. I have two and if they ever break ( which has only happened once in 3 years. I just bring it back to academy and swap them out no questions asked.

Do this. This is my baitcaster besides Shimano curado/Calcutta/chronarch. It beats all those by a mile and has a 30lb drag.

Lucky fricker.

how much fishing you planning on doing? If you fish a decent amount, I'd spring for the Calcutta. I have that one now. I started out with the Shimano Cardiff and it was great! Still have it and let buddy's use it when they come so they aren't bird nesting my Calcutta

That doesn't look like gen 3 inshore. Is it the Orra inshore maybe?

Thanks for all of the responses. I'm leaning towards an academy H2O reel to see if I like using baitcasters.
I average about 2 times a week in delacroix. I fish almost exclusively with a popping cork and live bait or plastics. Want to start using the trolling motor and throwing lures , seems like a baitcaster is the way.
