Backyard Natural Gas to Propane conversion?

First time OBr here. I figured this would be a much better place than the OT to pose this scenario.
I've just recently moved into a new house, in which I had them add an external gas line in my backyard to eventually add a grill. Last week I'm finally ready to hook it up. I get everything I think I need and of course I'm getting no action. Come to find out, I think I need some kind of conversion kit, but I don't know much about this kind of stuff. Here's some pics of what I got, hopefully you guys can let me know what I need or don't have. TIA.

I didn't do any type of conversion and I did the same thing on my back porch.

Propane and natural gas use different flow rates when burning. The kit you need will change the orifice size for natural gas in your grill. You don't want to run natural gas with out changing the orifice. It will burn hotter and can damage your grill. It's all about orifice.

You need the conversion kit for the grill and while you are at the hardware store picking it up grab a can of spray paint for that has piping outside.

I can't believe whoever did that work didn't use galvanized pipe and use a shorter nipple between the valve and the collar.

I guess my grill just burns hotter. frick a conversion, the grills I buy are disposable in a few years anyway.

Not being galvanized is not a problem. just wire brush and painting the iron pipe.
Its standard to use iron piping for natural gas. The contractor that installed it should have painted it though. usually the building inspector would require it prior to signing off on the final inspection.

Get a Webber, had mine for 12 years. Change out the flavorizer bars every 4 years or so. Still going strong

you got that backwards chief...Propane burns hotter... no danger in it there...but you are correct in that the orifice does need to be changed
to the OP: that setup is an accident waiting to happen...sticks out to far...too many adapters/connections...wtf? a hose clamp?
get a pre-made stainless braided line...and like someone mentioned paint that stuff once you get it shortened up...

just run is as is and shut the valve off when finished. people way over complicate things....I'd rather be huntin

Yeah...I don't know much about this kind of stuff. The yellow taped part and back is what I added. I don't know why it seems like they have an extra piece that sticks out. I mean, unless it's not supposed to be like that for safety reasons, it doesn't bother me. That's where the grill will go anyway once the back yard is done getting set up.
So I'm guessing where I did to fix is in the grill itself? Is that this conversion kit goes? Or is it something I just add to the hose? Because it's not lighting at all right now. So for all those who say just leave it how it is....I'd like to but it's not lighting as is.

just to clear; you are getting gas ie hearing it come through the valve? Assuming you are, then almost certainly your grill is set up for propane and since it doesn't seem to be working as is then you need to change orifices. If you have decent quality gill give them a call to get pointed in the right direction as far as converting it. A little surprised that it doesn't work at all even without converting though.

I'd still shorten it...I'd rip that shite out the wall with my riding mower the first time by...the valve should almost be in the wall box afaic...get a natural gas quick connect hose for it...no need to have that hose clamped piece on there 24/7

You may of thought hooking your grill up to NG would be as simple as just that but its pretty involved. Thats why many people just use it as is if it works.
Decent chance you will end up with new grill.
And if your grill is going to butt up to the extended nipple/valve then don't waste your time and money with stainless hoses/ quick connect shite. It will be out of the way and will work fine for very many years.

his grill is kept on the slab, not the lawn by the gas outlet...
It doesn't cost much more to do it right...
