ATV Title Question

Seeing the UTV/Polaris title question in another thread brought to mind a question I have. My FIL gave my wife his 1999 Yamaha Big Bear...we've had it since early 2000's. Probably 2005 or so. I don't think he gave her the title.
Does La title ATVs? How would I go about getting a title to the ATV if my FIL can't find his copy (want to get it legal before he passes away) and be able to sell it should the wife choose to do so.
(Don't read into anything...it's the wife's and it'll always be hers...if she wants to sell it..that's her decision).

So all she needs to do is get him to sign a bill of sale saying he gave it to her for XX dollars (probably $1)....

i live in mississippi and that is correct. I would think its the same in LA

Or you can print out an act of donation form. I think you can get blanks ones at the DMV.

When I sold my ATV last year it had a title as did the trailer. I received the title from Polaris after it was paid off.

Just an FYI...if/when you go to sell it years from now, noone is going to be worried about the title. I've been buying and selling atv's for a while and unless it's fairly new, most don't have the title. I just have the VIN# run through the police department to make sure it's not stolen.

Wife used to work at the DMV. Said you need to have your FIL order a new title from the DMV the do the act of donation.
But to add to the last fellow...who cares about an ATV title?

There is absolutely no reason to worry about an atv title in this state.

Not sure on LA but AL doesnt do titles to ATVs. Just a bill of sale.
