Most of mine end up with some kind of rattle can camo paint job... and after a while all the scratches and scuffs where you can see the black underneath.

I don't buy Geissele rails though.

That Noveske branded upper appears to be a VLTOR. If so, it has different dimensions than a standard (milspec) upper receiver. Likely the problem.

Put your damn AR thread on the correct board and this wouldn't happen.

This is twice now. Once for the rifle and once for posting on the OT.

Haven't used a Noveske upper for an AR build, but just looking at the pictures there are some definite differences between your upper and a standard, flat-top M4 upper. If you have a mil-spec upper handy I'd make some comparison measurements between the two to make sure the area above the mag well is the same dimension before escalating this with Geissele.

Edit: look at your last picture...the standard 5.56 upper tapers in below the bore and above the mag well, the Noveske does not. Noveske is not a standard upper.

i see it. it still says mil-spec on vltor's site, so i didnt expect to have issues

Is that a milspec upper?

yes, but with thicker walls

Seems to me that it isn't milspec.

It may be mil-spec in that it fits standard components (barrel, barrel nut, buffer tube, BCG, charging handle, mil-spec lower, etc), but it's clearly not a standard upper.

correct. as i said, the side walls are thick and use more material. i fool with a gazillion of these at work and ive never had this issue before. apparently vltor has the taper on their new upper. the ones that got the noveske stamp are generation 2 and a bit older, so i guess im just unlucky.

we'll see what geissele says. as one of their guys said on arfcom, they should have a warning about older vltors

I don't see how it is mil spec if it doesn't fit. In my understanding of mil spec, it is the same dimensions as the rifles designated to the military. If it is thicker, it is not the same.
