Which one would make the better investment, a $500 AR or AK? Bear Creek and DPMS ARs verses Romanian AK. I talking 10 or more not just one to put in the safe for a rainy day.

10 S&W Sport AR's or upper/lower PSA builds

misread op. I would say AK's but that is only a gut feeling since 500 for an AR is lower end and its kinda mid level for AK.

I would think magazines would a better investment. USGI 30 rounders for less than $7 each now. Easier to sell and based on the last price high at $50 each the ROI is much better than firearms.

People say PMAGs but of course when the latest plastic mag is out the older ones will be worth less. USGI aluminum mags have gotten premiums sine the ban in the 90's and continue to sell well in places like MA and ban states at high prices.

Lowers, as with firearms, if you sell a lot in a short period of time you can be opening up some legal troubles.

At current prices, everyone should have a couple lowers per future child and several for future builds, and maybe 4 or 5 you are willing to part with.

If you plan in having 3 kids...my magic number is 16 on hand. Nice billets for me and the kids though.

Why 16?

1. 3 children at 2 each....6
2. nice billets for my future builds....5
3. On hand and would sell to a friend...5

Total of 16.

I have my AR collection almost complete; need another sbr, spr, 45acp and a 6.5. Plus an extra 308 lower. So 5 on hand for me.

I plan on building my kids an AR or two when they reach age.

5 extra just in case I wanna sell em or get the itch for a 7.62x39 AR or God knows what else.

Eta: and this is the land of the free...so if a guys wants 100 sitting in his house then fine by me. If he wants none, fine by me.

Either or depending on the market. Right now that $500 AK would be worth a good deal more, just like the $700 AR would have been in January 2013. Just like 30rd mags and every other "pre-ban". Right now you are much better off stocking up on stripped AR15/10 lowers/uppers, BCG's, and good furniture for them since those are always the hottest items that command the biggest prices when the market goes nuts.

As long as you don't expect a return on your investment either will be fine.

Buy one because it's fun, not as an investment. Guns in general are not good investments. Too many of em.

$500 can buy you a nice 9mm.

I would go with a Walther PPS 9mm for a CC gun.

Yes and no.

In the long run no gun is ever gonna lose value only go up. I am not looking to retire on guns. I got 2 sons that may want them when I am dead and gone.
