I have been for a while and have always used 208gr Hornady Amax and had fine results but wanted to find something cheaper. Just got in 500 bullets in coated lead 215gr.

Going to try it with 9.5gr of IMR4227.

The amax end up around .35-.40 per each and the lead ended up with shipping at .19 per each.

Thats a good price. I think I got my blkout recipe from you on here. 208gr amax with 10.1 of 4227?

Any suggestions on a factory loaded .300blk for close range deer? Just put one together and all I can find local is the Remington 120g otfb supersonics.

120gr Barnes Vortex tac-tx is suppose to be very good. I haven't used mine for deer

Just don't. That's less energy than a 243

So? It's similar to 7.62X39 which is very capable of killing deer. Unless you were talking about subsonics...

Yeah, I should've mentioned that I use .308 and occasionally .32 win special normally, but wanted to try it out. It will be used for less than 75 yards.

Thanks bbvdd and cr77..
I'll look for the Barnes Vortex tac-tx

My son has killed 2 bucks and a hog with his this year. None have taken a step.

There is plenty of lethality to kill a deer with either a 300blk or a 243

One thing I did find out about using the flat nose is that the COL needs to be short to fit in the magazine correctly. So far it looks like it needs to be at 2.05"

Oh, yeah Chatrabbit was right

The 120 has ~1200ft/lb energy while the 110 has ~1400ft/lbs

FWIW - I've read in several places and seen on You/tube that there were consistency and accuracy issues with the coated lead projectiles from several different manufacturers, Missouri Bullet Company included. Hope you have good luck, and I hope that you will post your results.

I have started loading for it but haven't shot any of my rounds. Using barnes 110 grain tac-tx black tips in front of 20 grains of H110. Loading to barnes factory ammo length as a start. Had to by a primer pocket swager since just about all the factory loaded 300 black i shot has staked primer pockets

Damn that's a lot of bullet depth in the case! I guess I've never loaded subsonics before so I don't have a point of reference. That's also a crazy low charge weight, but again, subsonics.

My usual 5.56 loadings are 23.5gr Benchmark, 25gr CFE223, or 23.5gr H335 (1/2MOA loading). Just never realized 300BLK subs have so much less powder. Makes sense now...

You can actually cut done a .223/5.56 case to the shoulder and run it through your sizing die and have a .300blk case.

I have to trim the case as well but it's the exact same.

And, I never expected the lead to be anywhere near as accurate as an amax.

This will be plinking and maybe some hog hunting (we don't have that many around here yet but they're coming)

Just as long as I can hit a paper plate at 50yds I'm good.

And Bapple, the subsonic bullet is longer than the case.
