They absolutely are worth it if you are an avid bowhunter

(don't own one yet, but will soon)

I have used Ozonics for one season. First time using it I had a doe sneak up behind me and wind me. I was pissed. Did some research and I wasn't using it correctly based on the wind. After that I never had another deer blow at me.

It's not 100% effective as some deer react to the smell of ozone and don't like it. Some walk into my downwind and get spooked but they don't blow at me. They simply turn around or change their course. Majority of deer aren't bothered by it. Older does and the few 3.5 year old bucks I had in bow range knew something was up but it's wasn't enough for them to bust me. Overall I would recommend it if you bowhunt a lot and have the extra cash. Playing the wind and using scent control religiously is still the most important .

Side note: it seems hogs, especially the alpha female in a sounder would not tolerate the ozone at all.

Thanks for the info. I started bow hunting last year and I got winded 3-4 times. I've got some bass pro points to cash I so I think I'll get one.

Learn to hunt the wind. Use multiple/movable stands. Use that money to buy a couple more stands instead. Just starting out, you have a lot more to learn that will help you more than an ozone producing machine.

Edit- You said you were winded 3-4 times. That's pretty good for a season.

Yep. The one time one didn't wind me I shot high. But the rush was so much more intense than rifle hunting.

I was hooked when that happened.

They work fine. U can use other items to mask your scent. I use pine oil deer urine etc and have had does try to mate with me they got so confused.

It all just depends

Its easy to say "just hunt the wind" and you should but the winds do swirl and change direction. Warming or cooling temperatures can cause inversions which will also carry scent.

That said, the Ozonics is another tool to help you mask your scent. If you are a bowhunter it is absolutely worth the investment.

I've never used one, so I can't say either way. I hunt in farm country, so human scent is always around (farmers fixing fence, planting, harvesting, spraying, checking cattle, etc.), and because of this, the deer in the area I hunt are conditioned to human scent to a certain degree.

I also hunt on the ground with a ghillie suit or in a blind, and I don't really take any precautions as far as scent control. I use masking scents such as Deer Dander (my go-to) and I'll use doe urine or estrous scent if it's during the rut. I'm a firm believer in ghillie suits if you're hunting from the ground. I shot a buck last year that I had two encounters with (one at 10 yards, the other at 30 when I shot him). Both encounters, I had swirling winds. A month later during rifle, I had a herd of does come running from downwind--sounded like cattle. One doe got upwind of me and looked in my blind from probably 30 yards away, so I shot her. I was drinking coffee and dipping Skoal Fine Cut. They had to have caught wind of me.

I guess if you have the money, go for it. I'm not entirely against using it, but in my area, I'm not sure it's worth the money.

Plus I just bought a Halon 32, so my funds are limited at the moment.
