Cardiff Baitcast reel? The Symetre is a step below the Stradic and the Cardiff is a step below the Calcutta. Thinking about pulling the trigger on them but just seeing if anyone has any feedback. Thanks.

Gotta Saros 2500, step above Symtere and below Stradic, can't tell difference b/t it and the Stradic and hopefully will hold up as well.

At the same price point, the new Ambassadeur C3 or C4 is where I would go. The 2015 versions are salt-water ready. If I'm buying a round baitcaster it's going to be a Calcutta or an Ambassadeur C3/C4. I've tried different round Shimanos other than the Calcutta and always wound up wishing I had just bought the Ambassadeur. I absolutely love my Calcutta, but if I'm not shelling out $200, then its Ambassadeur.

ETA: I have a small symetre on my slab set-up and it has always treated me well.

I've had great luck with the Symetre reels. Also with the Calcuttas. I really like the GTB. I don't know if I would drop a level down to the Cardiff.

I have a calcutta 200B already. It's my reel. But when i have buddies come, i need a few baitcasters for them but i dont want to drop the coin on 2-3 more Calcuttas.

i've got Stradic and Saros. both are really smooth and dependable. only difference between the two is the Stradic's bearings are sealed better than the Saros and should last longer.
additional: i'm not referring to the graphite-body Stradic

Then go get some Citicas if you want to stay in Shimano, or look at the Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs for round reels or the REVO S for low-profile. All of those reels should run you around $110-$130

I use the FL 3000 Symetre. I only fish reds and, occasionally, fish the surf. Holds up way better than my Penn 3500 in the surf.
The drag is super smooth. My largest red on it this year is a 23lb monster on 12lb mono. I think for $100 you just cant go wrong with the Symetre. I like the smaller size of the 3000 since they are easier to nest in the boat.

Yeah, i was planning to do the 2500. I have the stradic 2500 and it has been fine since i bought it a few years ago.

They are physically the same size. Only difference is line capacity and max drag. I would go with the 3000, especially if you're going to be targeting bull reds. But realistically, it probably won't matter much.

I target trout mostly, but if they aren't biting, i will go for reds.

I've had the Cardiff for about 4 years now. I've had a few large fish abuse it and it keeps on ticking. Smooth drag still.

You fish saltwater? That was really my only concern was how it held up in salt water/air.

Yup. It's been a good lingcod (saltwater) reel and a good striper (brackish) reel. I'm pretty good about always rinsing my reels down when I get home. I think that really helps extend the life of them.
