trying this here b/c i'm not getting any bites on the food board

I will be buying a smoker here in the next couple of weeks and i'm trying to figure out what my final decision will be.
I'm leaning towards The Good One Open range as of now. I've also thrown the possibility of going the primos xl route since i've opened the budget up a tad and both priced in the same range.
I really like the idea and concept of The Good One smokers. Just looking at some other possibilities before I take the plunge.
Not sure about going with an offset... think maybe the biggest thing is there are so damn big for a comparable priced one. think i can get a lang or klose for around the same price as the above mentioned, but they seem to be only smokers and cannot double as a grill.
The open range and primos xl are much more compact. plus i could smoke and grill on either.

Really like that design. If I didn't already have an offset, I'd get one of those.

Are you looking for a dedicated smoker or a grill and smoker in one?

If just a dedicated smoker I'd look elsewhere than either of your options. Maybe a pit barrel cooker or Weber smokey mountain.

If looking for a dual, I like the design you linked. It's basically an offset stacked on top. Probably wouldn't smoke as good as a dedicated smoker but it gives you more space and versatility.

It just seems to be a much more efficient design.
I like the fact that the dampers run the entire length of the box.
I wouldn't have to have a table or cart built either, although it would be fun to make one.

I don't think I want to keep 2 pits around. So, i'm looking at more of a combo deal.
I like the weber smokey mtn, but i like being hands on. That, like the primos is a set and forget type deal.

Actually, the good one design smokes just as good if not better than say the smokey mtn or barrel cooker. Can control the heat better... kind of works like an offset and a vertical smoker.

My only concern would be build quality. That design is simple and known to smoke well.

That's if it has tight seals and good build quality etc.

Anywhere you can see one in person?

Yep.
Going to make a trip to laffy next week and check them out. They have them at Percy Guidrys.
Build quality is supposed to be really good, think they use 11 guage and 14 guage steel on the pits. I first saw them on amazingribs.com, have real good reviews.
There is a version of this at academy now thats sort of opposite of this for about $500. Have a buddy who picked up one of the offset oklahoma joes and that sum bitch leaks like a sive.
Id rather spend a little bit more money and get a better fit and steel.

I can get it shipped for free and no tax from their online dealer or I can buy from percy guidrys in laffy and inspect/pay taxes. Think its better to see in person or save $80?

It's really a shame how poorly those are put together. Solid design with small footprint. Would be fantastic if built to $1k instead of $500.

Yeh.... I've been 3-4 times to academy to look at them and every time I go the ones they have always have something not lined up. I'm talking not even close too. shite is overlapping or not closing completely. My biggesr concern with the "good one version" they have is the fire box is massive. It would take a ton of coals to keep it going. Seems heavy duty enough....
Sucks though cause I would rather drop $500 than 1k. But that shite would bother me to no end...
