Got a couple trees, 3rd year, in 50g pots, expecting first fruit this year. Anyone else having success growing them?

Grew them in South Florida, figured it got too cold here in Louisiana for them to survive.

never lived in a location that was warm enough to leave them out during the winter. very cool looking tree, though.

I would have thought you would need something like a 250g mini tote for trees in the avacado/lemon/satsuma size class. Surprised you can do it in 50g. Let us know how it comes out!

I thought it took many years for them to reach maturity. The few times I have seen them mentioned for fruit in Louisiana, the story ended in failure for whatever reason.

So I plan to transplant them into a mini tote this winter, the secret to them outside during the winter is wrapping them in Xmas tree lights and wrapping them in plastic sheeting

I planted a Fantastic a few weeks ago in a container. That variety is supposedly the most cold hardy. We'll see.

It's seems like LSU would be working on a variety that would viable in Louisiana.

Brother has one in Houston, It's been in the ground 4 years, he sent a picture, he must have 100 fruits, he said they are all about 1" long

I've got a couple growing in the ground in my backyard about 15 ft tall. Been growing for a few years now. One produced 3 Avacados one year, but haven't had any since. Figured since it didn't get cold enough this year, might mean some this year, but not looking so good so far.

To cold too long and it takes a while for them to reach maturity level by that time the cold has them very messed up and will only fruit every few years and usually poor quality and very few fruit. If you plant a more mature tree it will fruit very hardy at first then dwindle down to nothing as well. No bueno

Tried on two occasions with a pair grown from seed in pots. Looked big and healthy for 2-3 years until I screwed up and let them freeze. The word from horticulture folks I know is don't bother unless you have a greenhouse. Then need to be patient and add the right soil amendments. I'm sure avocados like a certain pH.
