Ordered one. Just got it in the mail. From the looks of it I can't switch the action to go left handed? I'm a little hung over but this can't be going that far over my head. Am I missing something or they just made this strictly to work one way?

Eta: I'm not left handed. Just like it that way.

Never messed with one, but the pics I've seen suggest that it's got that same little deal on the other side that you unscrew. Does yours not?

Or, just learn to use it properly.

I have a couple okuma's. You should be able to change the side by unscrewing the cap. They have been excellent reels for me.

Aren't pretty much all spinning reels like this nowadays? I have an Okuma and you can change it. It's not the Trio, but I imagine it has the same feature.

You know what's not universal? Anti-reverse selector. I have a Quantum that has no way to turn it off. Would not be a big deal, but sometimes I accidentally reel up some of the slack after a hookset and I pretty much have to cut the line to get it out.

I bought an Okuma reel a couple years ago and it was by far the biggest piece of shite reel I have ever purchased. I will not be purchasing another, ever.

You'd think that. I know the standard trio switches. I bought the high speed 40s. The hole on the right is too small for that lever to go in. I'm stupefied. I even went as far as taking a wrench thinking that those pieces unscrew. And I just flip flop them. That did not work out like I thought it would. I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to fish right handed. This brings me to a whole nother point. Why do you reel bait casters with your right hand and spinning reels with your left??? It doesn't feel natural.

Screw those guys, the Trio is a great reel. Unscrew the cap on the other side from the handle -- the black plastic piece with the little hole in it needs to come out, it usually is held in by the grease. just pull it with needlenose or a little screwdriver, put in the other side then put the cap screw through it, bingo, good to go.

It will. I cannot imagine using a spinning reel left handed.

I reel my spinning reels with the same hand I reel my bait casters, with my right hand operating the handle. Is this not normal? I've had to manually switch every spinning reel I've ever purchased.

After poking around online I saw someone talking about this. That little small plastic ring on the inside needs to come out? I'm afraid I'm gonna break it.

eta: got it. My God sir you are a saint. I want to buy you a beer

No, it's not.

Did you never wonder why all the manufacturers were doing this?

So why are bait casters on the right side?

Because they sit on top of the rod.

I use left hand retrieve for both. It's a pain finding a casting reel at a store that isn't an Abu Garcia.

I think I may be retarded but I don't understand why this matters. I guess I have done googling to do.

I have read some tidbits here and there. Some of them include: rod in dominant hand for casting, baitcasters having small diameter handles requiring a wrist movement, spinners having larger diameter(or radius) handles which can be operated with more of a forearm or whole arm action.
