I'm taking my Open Water cert there...and just curious how's the facilities? Probably staying in Crestview because they got the type hotels I stay at for work.

I've heard there's no thermocline...but sure how 68 degrees year round feels in a suit....

Gonna be some shrinkage for sure but depending on the air temp the 68 might not be too bad. I have been to cypress springs not far from there but it was summer time. Water will be nice and clear though. I did my open water check out dive right near the pass just outside panama city then hit up the black bart a sunken supply boat for our deep dive. Several nice dive spots within 10 miles of shore off Panama City beach for future trips

it's cold as can be

wear head protection (wetsuit)

also pee in your wetsuit before you jump in, it will ease the shock of the cold water

but its beautiful

68 is 68, it's pretty dang cold in May and September without a wet suit. It'll be great in the off season though with no one really around, in the summer it's a redneck riviera.

I did a dive there years ago. Only thing I suggest is a full wet suit and headgear. 68 is 68 in December or July.

No, but a guy I was friends with in high school went missing there in 2010. It was a pretty big story

if you don't own a 7mm or thicker wet suite you can rent them from the operator of vortex. it is VERY much worth the money if cold water bothers you.

I don't dive but have kayaked Blackwater River nearby in Milton which is fed by the same underground spring and water temp is cold in August.
