Anybody been to Last Island Lately?

Going fishing down there sometime this week. Anybody have any luck with Specks on the Gulf side???

I've heard hit and miss reports from this past weekend on beaches all over. I did not make it out there. The tides were a bit fricky, though.

I was there last Thursday and my dad and I limited out on specks. We got some live shrimp and I think that made the difference.
It was slow at first (we actually started at Timbalier and made our way towards Last Island). We had a north wind so it was nice on the Gulf side.
Started catching some white trout and then some specks. Got them into a bit of a feeding frenzy as they started biting on every cast. Stopped with the live shrimp and put on a double rig and caught two at a time a few times.
I hooked a shark and they turned off immediately. We had just reached our limit so it worked out.
Otherwise it was pretty shitty fishing the rest of the weekend. Nobody catching many. Here's some pics of the of specks we caught that day (more nice size ones than 12 -13 inchers).

My cousin went yesterday and didn't do much in the way of specs. But they got into a school of reds then a school of jacks. And I was at home cutting the grass. FML.

I'm going deep on Friday. Gonna try some deep rigs for big trout. Anyone doing anything in that realm?

Had to tow my dad in from Mangrove Bay to Four Point. Along the way I picked up a trawl net in the prop

it was a lot easier to get off, just sucked because we didn't have a sharp knife. quote:

When we finally get back to the camp we take the boat back to the landing to put it on the trailer. As we get ready to back the boat into our drive way, the trailer and the boat come off the truck and passes us up in the drive way. Luckily it missed both of the cars in the driveway and we were able to get the trailer up on the jack stand.

Don't feel bad. I crushed my hand between the seadoo trailer and my truck bumper, rendering the entire weekend plans of wakeboarding a bust. Thought I'd broken my pinky--it was as purple as my dong after sects. Wife made me go to the doc for xrays. All should be healed for fishing next week.

We fished inside Coco yesterday and caught 34 specks....kind of a let down after the last few trips, and a guy fishing our spot on Thursday limiting out.

Sounds like there was no alcohol involved. Wasn't that the same problem when the trap got caught? we had to wave sombody down to let us borrow their shitty rusted snips.
