So my lab has been eating Pedigree since we got her, which is going on 2 months and some change. The problem is she isn't eating her regular food by itself, started about a 8-10 days ago. So what I started doing is buying canned food, and pour a little on the dry food, I guess you can call it mixing it and man she goes to town on that. Weird part, she eats it like that but doesn't eat the dry food by itself, or the wet food by itself(tried for 4 days, need more testing). Anyone have this problem before or know what I can do besides just flat out switching her food? 4 years old if that matters. TIA

She'll eat it when she gets hungry enough. she won't starve herself to death.

She will eat the dry food eventually. She just would rather have the mixed. Just don't feed her nothing but dry. She will eat it. She will not starve to death.

Never heard of that before, my guys would seriously frick up their food whenever I mixed it with canned stuff, but they always ate the regular food as well. The canned stuff was just their treat.

I fed my lab Pedigree years ago, however there are better foods available (but the cost increases).

Exactly. She usually goes to work on it soon as I give it to her, but lately I've been coming home and her bowl still half of what I gave her the day before. Just not used to seeing that.

I give her carrots as treats, sometimes Beggin Strips but not too often.

So you guys are saying just stop givig her the mixed and just the dry food then see how that works?

We give her pedigree simply because that's what the vet recommended. She said not to give her Ol Roy or any food with red pieces in it because we wouldn't be able to tell if any bleeding was going on. We then asked what type of food does she recommend and she said Pedigree. May have to try Purina one of these days or hit up Petsmart and see what's up with those new dog foods they advertise on TV. What's it called, Blue?

I feed my dog Blue Buffalo fish and potato, mainly because she is allergic to chicken (and chicken is found in almost every dog food). The brand also tends to have higher quality ingredients.

It runs about $60 for a 24lb bag. Not cheap, but remember the dog is eating the same thing, for every meal, every day. I consider it an investment.

WTF??

Blue Buffalo is one of many really good dog foods, but it isn't better than the rest. Try Taste of the Wild. It's around $45 for a 30lb bag and they eat less of it than pedigree.

costco brand food is rated as one of the best. I use the chicken and rice or lamb and rice

As a puppy, they can get spoiled to a food. Dry food is good for their teeth. If you keep giving soft food (or wetting it like we did), they will expect it. If you only give them dry, they'll eventually eat it, they won't starve. They'll get used to it.

I don't have a lab but I feed my dog Circle J's extreme Dog Fuel. It's made in Louisiana. She eats half of it compared to other foods I've tried. It has high levels of good stuff. It makes her coat very full and healthy. I recommend it. It's not overly expensive. I think $30-35 per 40 lb bad if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: also she has never refused to eat it. My little sisters dog who is half cut half lab also eats it and loves it.

Blue is expensive. It is a good food, but others are just as good and cheaper. FWIW, I use Purina Pro Plan. Also recommended by my vet. But there are other good foods.

It is the only brand that doesn't give my dog an allergic reaction, so for me it is the best. I don't like the high price obviously.

Most of the brands at a grocery store are full of fillers. Some of them are made in China. From what I have read, Science Diet from the vet is garbage.

Not bad at all. I know she'll eat it eventually ... just wonder what is it that's causing her not to eat it in the first place. 60 for a 24 pound vs 35 for a 40 is a no brainer, but to be fair, is Blue really that much better than the others? I know about thier products but no farther than what is shown on TV, haven't took the time to look them up for reviews. I'm not really looking forthe cheapest dog food, rather a quality one at a quality price, if it is even reasonable to switch her food at this point. May consider if the dry method doesn't pan out.

I started using the 4 health grain free food at tractor supply. They have a few flavored. My labs coat has never looked better.

Switch foods until you find something she likes. Had to do it with my dog

I tried:
Horizon
Innova
Solid gold
Wellness Core
Fromme
Solid Gold
Taste of the wild

After a week or two, he just stopped eating each one. Finally settled on EVO during the winter and Orijen or Blue Wilderness during the summer. I just kept buying the small bags

I mix my labs together. Just cut it in with an old spoon and they can't help but eat it. One big cup of dry food and half a can feeds him for the day.
