I left my shotgun In a humid garage for a few days and now there are spots of rust on the outside of the barrel. Is there anything I can do myself to get the rust off, or do I need to take it in to a gunsmith?

Doesn't help you now but I keep mine in a moisture absorbent sock because I keep mine in a basement. Done the trick thus far for 3 years. Even if it's not working I'm only out $15.

0000 Steel wool with a little oil. rub lightly and slowly. may take you 30min, but it will come off. don't scrub, rub

Good suggestion. I'd say use some CLP with that steel wool. You can get a giant bottle of the stuff at Walmart.

Seems like overkill if it's just some very light surface rust. WD40 and a paper towel will usually get that right off.

Naval Jelly, will also remove Blueing. I was using some on rusty tools last night and noticed it mentioned gun barrels.
