You're thinking of a Jewfish

Figured this would have been JJ before I opened it

Looks delicious.
Are they good eating at that size?
Only grouper I have had was a small gag grouper which was delicious.

I don't know. I was just joking about keeping such a large fish.

Yeah. Figured you were joking but it got me curious. That would be some helluva filets

We caught a 259lb warsaw a few years ago. It was in 450' of water. Had a brand new pack of bologna not even open yet, and a huge ham bone in its stomach. It was really good. Didn't find a difference from the ones that are 80lbs I've eaten before.

I would've eaten the bologna.

What do you clean a fish that big with a chainsaw?

filet knife and a lot of patience, works best with more than one person.

Big ones like that are absolutely delicious. In the 80's I caught 15 huge ones over the course of a couple months off of a platform in 685 ft of water using a hand winch, 1/4" rope, a shark hook and a 5 # hardtail for bait. Didn't have a proper scale but I am 6' tall and the biggest were longer than I was tall by a couple inches, and we estimated that they weighed at least 300 lbs. All of them had pure white meat and were delicious.
