If air rifle, can you recommend one in the $150 range? I'm leaning towards the air rifle because it means I can get another gun.

For an air rifle the main factor would be accuracy followed closely by power.

Might want to edit your thread title (doves)

From Federal Migratory game bird regs:

No person shall take migratory game birds:

With a trap, snare net, RIFLE, pistol, swivel gun, shotgun larger than 10-guage, punt gun, battery gun, machine gun, fishhook, poison, drug, explosive or stupefying substance.

do you have an issue with being able to shoot guns at your house?

For me it isn't as much as accuracy as point blank range. My 22 air rifle carries a lot of energy but after 30-40 yards you will start needing to estimate holdover. 177 has less energy and penetration but will shoot flatter and needs minimal holdover until past 50 yards or so. But 177 will probably be supersonic and will have more of a report. After some practice you get used to how much holdover you need. But still not as easy to point and click like a subsonic 22. Subsonic 22 will have less drop than the air rifles. CCI 22 quiets out of my 24" barrel 22 rifle are pretty quite, quiet enough you don't need hearing protection but far from neighborhood friendly.

My Ruger Impact 22Lr had a integrated suppressor and it is quiet enough to shoot in the neighborhood. I get just under 800fps with 14.7gr pellets. The noise of the round impacting the target is normally louder then the report of the rifle. It will put down a good sized rabbit at 30 yards.

Not a .22. But I'd still like to be a little more quiet about it.

Go buy a suppressor for your .22 and get an air rifle to fill the time until you get your suppressor.

I have a Benjamin air rifle I use. Nearly silent and I can hit them from 50-75 yards without issue.

CCI CB .22,
No louder than a good pellet gun, took out a pretty big coon with it the other night. I have also taken out quite a few squirrels with it and i have never heard anything from the neighbors.

My son has a GAMO silent something and he kills lots of "things". He probably shoots 500 pellets a week be at targets or "things". He's dead eye dick with a rifle.

Anyone have experience with Super Colibri 22LR? It's a 20 gr projectile using only the primer charge, no powder.

The box someone gave me was not made for a rifle, pistols only. Had a warning on the box.

Crosman Nitro Venom.

Plenty accurate and powerful.

Mine takes down big coons at 20-30 yards. Should have no trouble with squirrels.

Get a Ruger 10/22 with a cheap scope for about $200 and use CCI CB longs (subsonic). About as loud as slamming a car door. The subsonics are not powerful enough to cycle the semi-auto action, so you will have to manually slide the bolt, but you have a classic, versatile rifle.

Air rifles in this power and accuracy range are much more expensive, heavy and tedious to load one shot at a time.
