Agents nab five anglers with red snapper in federal waters

The department says it cited five men for adding red snapper to their creels at least 15 miles off the Louisiana coast Sunday.

The state boundary extends to nine nautical miles.

Agents say they caught Carman Johnson, 44, of Mobile, Ala., with eight red snapper, which is six over the limit. They also say Ryan Bergeron, 19, of Houma, and Randy Landry, 51, of Houma, had three red snapper, and Jordan Mousso, 30, of Broussard and Robert Mousso, 51, of Youngsville, also had three red snapper.

The red-snapper season in federal waters won't open until June 1, NOAA Fisheries announced Wednesday.
