OK, at the very last minute I am throwing caution to the wind and going offshore with two of my sons tomorrow. One is 22 and the other is 14.

I have never been offshore and know the party boat probably is not the way to go. That said it is what it is. Besides "hire a private guide" what advice do you have? The guide is supplying everything but the license and we are heading out of Galveston at 8:30 am tomorrow.

Thanks

What type of party boat?
How far offshore?

Looks like conditions will be decent tomorrow.

Last party boat we did was a lot of fun, we went snapper fishing. We brought a cooler with some food and beverages, we were allowed to bring beer as long as it was cans. The deck hands were great, the gear was pretty decent, and the boat limited out.

Not sure how this type of fishing would work for anything but bait, and drop straight down, lots of lines in the water.

Worst experience of my life. We on spring break to South Padre Island and a buddy scheduled us a trip on one of these. We went straight from the bar to the boat. The winds were 20+ and no one caught shite. Line were constantly getting tangled.

Looks like a 71 foot catamaran. It is a 4 hour trip so hopefully not too far otherwise it will be a boat ride not a fishing trip.

They provide squid for bait and offer something else for sale. Do I go with the squid?

Like I said first time offshore and first time in saltwater.

Catches most anything.

The other is probably pogeys or cigar minnows.

Fish from the stern. Fewer lines/tangles in my experience. I caught a 63lb cobia/ling/lemonfish on the Florida Girl when I was a young teenager. It can be hectic if crowded, but will be as much fun as you make it. If you and your sons like it, consider ponying up for a charter next time. Also, if the TX boats still use electric reels only, be careful or they will shock the shite out of you.
