Looking to buy a camper to use at our duck lease and fishing spots in La., but also to tour around and camp at parks with friends, etc.

I have a 1/2 ton truck and would prefer a pull behind rather than a 5th wheel or Motorhome.

What are the must have features those of you with campers would recommend? What are some good brands to look at with those features? Also, I'd like it to sleep at least 4.

Regarding the outside of the camper, I've seen some with fold out cooking and TV's on the outside of the camper under the awning. Any other cool features I should consider?

thanks in advance

ya want 2 axles, light weight, brakes, a good big deep cycle battery that the camper and truck charges when hooked up.
lots of storage and a ladder on back givin roof access. Get ya a good 3 part hitch with sway bars and have the camper place level it for ya makes pulling much easier

If you are buying new,go to a RV show if possible. You will get ideas on floor plans that will suit you best.

If buying used, do tons of research. Get on the roof to look for signs of leaking. Get underneath to look for water damage. Trailer tires are only good for 6--7years so look at the DOT date. Step on every square foot of flooring to feel for soft spots from water damage. And if you aren't sure, pay for an RV inspector.

you're probably looking at a 24-26 ft bunkhouse model. there's plenty of them out there with outdoor kitchens, slideouts. etc. buy based upon your trucks towing capacity and weight of everything you plan to tow.

Buy used

These things depreciate a lot pretty quickly and there are plenty on the market right now.

Inspect the roof. Trailers leak on the front and rear corners where the rubber meets the caps. Feel those corners. Look for leaks inside on the floor in these corners. Look by the slides for sign of water. If the siding is fiberglass and you see "bubbles", it's a sign of water leak. Feel under the slide out floor.
A bad water leak is the main issue I would look for. It can make a trailer worthless.
Of course check all the electronics etc.

1. Don't go to Camping World. Worst buying experience I've ever had.

2. I'll sell you mine. 2016 Heartland Pioneer.
