Had my eye on the PPQ 45, but am open to all suggestions striker or otherwise. Want a quality gun that's not super high end. Range gun primarily.

Springfield 1911. Something like their Range Officer or along those lines. Never been a fan of Ruger pistols at all. Their 1911's seem to get decent reviews though. Still better options out there for around the same money though

Why have a .45 in any other platform than 1911?

has anyone said 1911 yet? That's what I would recommend.

Seriously. Get a 1911. I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another polymer pistol to be honest

Good suggestions all. Do wish HK made a VP45 to put my hands on, the VP9 is a sweet shooter. Definitely will be looking at Colt.

Get the finest 45 auto pistol ever made. Sig P220. Sorry bald eagle 1911 loving made in the USA sunshine pumpers. P220 is the bees knees of 45 autos unless you get something custom IMHO. I remember seeing some Sig P220's at Bud's for around $700 a while time ago but I don't see anything in stock under $1k. Sometimes you'll see some DAO or DAK versions as police trade ins cheap. Like this place but OOS.

This is the colt I bought to get in the 1911 market. Have my eyes on a stainless commander series to carry around with me more often.

I agree with most here that there is something magically-right about shooting a 1911 chambered in 45 ACP.

That being said, the PPQ is an excellent handgun. It will also beat out the 1911 on capacity with 4 extra rounds.

Either way, the 45 market has some really good offerings and suggestions made so far have been pretty good.
