My dad told my mom he thought this was a good price and would like to have this pistol for Christmas. I know it has been discussed on this board..... But what is the consensus? He said the thought it was a good price, just something to play with......(per my mother who called me to ask)

I don't even think that is a good price for a Sigma if that is what you want. I think they go on sale for less than that.

That's an everyday IIRC. Powpow got one a few months ago around $250

I bought the 9mm as my first pistol about 8 years ago. Its not as high quality as most other guns on the market but I have put a few thousand rounds through it and never had a hang up. Very easy to dismantle and clean. Looking back, I should have spent an extra $150 and bought a Glock but I still carry my Sigma a lot.

That's an everyday price and frequently they run a $50 mail in rebate that would bring th price down to $250.

Why has no one here told you the Sigma is S&W's piece of crap gun? There's a reason it costs nothing - it's low quality and not based on a quality design. If it was based on the M&P I would say buy it but the gun sucks. It has way too heavy of a trigger, plastic sights, and cheap parts.

If you want a really quality gun for $300, look into the Ruger 9E. It's based on the SR9 but costs less money to make and only comes with one mag. A friend of mine bought one for $279 on Bud's.

To those of you who own Sigmas and say "mine has never had an issue"... I say congrats. You managed to buy a good one. But for the majority of experienced shooters, most will agree that the Sigma is an inferior gun.

I think full size S&W M&P 9's can be found online right now for 379-399, which is an actual good deal. Buds had police trade-in M&P 40's for $299, if you're married to that price. Sigmas are horrible at any price.

This would be 1,000 times better - shooting and reliability

How much more is an M&P really going to cost? At the end of the day, the M&P is where Smith took all the lessons from their mistake (Sigma) and made a really great "Glock" fighter.

Isn't that worth a hundred and a half to two hundred more? Pennies compared to all that experience gleaned.

Spend $500 to get him a Walther PPX. This is a damn fine pistol in 9mm that BossFloss will love.

You would be better off buying a good knife than one of those POS. The trigger on that thing is horrible

I think the PPQ is 10 times more gun than the PPX. No, I haven't shot one but hate the hammer design and the slide carries more mass than the PPQ. I can already tell it would be harder to shoot well.

Because it was when it came out originally, but they refined the design after being sued.

It's not based on a quality design? Please, your m&p with a reticle isn't the end all be all design. The sigma was a rip off of the glock, and now is basically a cooy of a mid 90s glock. Most parts interchange.

The heavy trigger issue can be fixed by removing one spring. One does not sacrafice any reliability.

My sw40ve had upwards of 10k rounds through it at time of sale... Zero hiccups.

Your m&p had dozens of malfunctions at my house. You blamed your reloads. When I shot your reloads out of my 19, zero failures.

I get that you have a preference, but blindly disparaging a brand you don't like when it is an infinitely more functional design (if not refined) is foolish.

Also, I'm back in the US if you wanna text me to shoot sometime, but I gotta warn ya, I'm faster than I was
