So I'm looking at the Kimber Custom II

and this Springfield Mil-Spec

Any info on either or recommendations of others?

I have an older Kimber Classic Stainless (before the II's were around) and I love it. It's a good shooting gun.

I look like a pro when I shoot a .45. It's ridiculous how good of a shot they are

Go springfield. I can't recommend Kimber anymore.

ETA: Also check out the Colt XSE, other then being a little sharp, it's a fine gun.

Really? Why? I haven't heard anything bad about it.

Out of those two I'd pick the Springfield

A lot of people say Kimber's QC has weakened in recent years.

I've never had a problem at all with my Kimber FTR, my wife ordered her one too

Kimber has gone south since the mid 2000s in my option, mostly QC stuff. If you can find a mid 90s-early 2000s TLE II with internal extractor I would get it.

The biggest issue with SA right now is availability, they seemed to have focused on their plastic pistols and the 1911s are coming out a snails pace.

Also SW makes a decent 1911, albeit not the typical 1911. Specifically, check out the E series.

If it were any kimber other than the custom II I most likely would have went with the kimber. The customs sights are garbage and would need to be changed immediately

You might have to go gunbroker or local to find one. Jefferson Indoor had a few SAs last time i was in there.

I was also looking at this Remington at Bass Pro last Friday. My soon to be FIL has it and it's the only .45 I've shot.

I recently picked up the SA Mil-Spec, and it's a great gun. I'm not big on fancy guns with engraving, etc. so the Mil-Spec suits me just fine. Only thing about it is it doesn't have the beavertail grip safety, so if you have oversize mitts and are prone to hammer bite, might want to go for the Kimber or plan on swapping the grip safety on the SA.

That Remington would be good too, if you're getting a starter 1911 the possibilities are endless because of the aftermarket parts available for them.

I definitely what the tail on it. It looks like the Mil Specs all have it though.

Have you considered a Rock Island Armory? They're pretty good guns for the price.

LINK

This tactical version with night sights is only $600.

ETA: Had to post a link because the pic was too big
