Was clearing out an old well at the property and this fella was hanging out. Overkill with the shotgun but it's all I had on me at the time. Snake ID help despite his head being off?

Was thinking black-masked at first glance, but looks like he may be a bit speckled so possibly a buttermilk racer.

Last weekend I let a speckled king snake live and killed a copperhead. Felt that was the responsible, adult thing to do.

Not really. I have little regard for a snakes life. But, I never understood why people think one deserves to live over the other. They both mostly eat the same things. Neither one of them are likely to bite you.

Think its funny how when someone kills a king snake or a rat snake, they get shite on. But, when you kill a copperhead or moccasin, it's "frick yeah, man".
