For those recently asking about which caliber to choose, I ran across this article today which I found interesting. I obviously don't want to be shot by either but take this for what its worth. Warning: the article has some graphic pictures of actual gunshot wounds.

A former special-operations doctor explains why he would rather be shot with an AK-47 than an M4:

LINK

"So there it is. All things being equal, when all is said and done, I’d rather be shot with an AK-47 than an M4 on any day of the week. Naturally, as medical responders, it is always important to treat the wound and not the rifle that inflicted it, and I have certainly seen some horrendous AK-47 wounds over the years and some relatively minor ones from M4s. It all depends."

Have a good OB weekend!

The 5.56 is meant to hit then tumble around inside a person. The 7.62 is usually a more clean, straight through shot.

I agree and have both but I'm also an equal opportunity gun employer.

Military-spec 5.56 is meant to yaw on impact then shear at the canelure. Ideally this creates a rather explosive wound channel with severe remote wounding effects to surrounding organs. Heavier 5.56 bullets behave differently though as does the M855A1 cartridge.

I wonder what relevance this has to hunting or self defense since militaries have to use FMJ ammo and I get to use soft point.
