We have 5 dead trees that we plan to remove one at a time because of the cost. (We've lived here a year). But now we got a notice from the village that we have 30 days to take them down or we will be fined. This is a first notice. I was told taking these down will be thousands of dollars. Not sure how tall they are. I figured 40 ft but my husband said some are 200 ft. In reading 80ft trees can be $1000 each. So we are going to have to spend $5000 to take down trees?

are the trees in a position to land on a house, car, or fence?

I guess they could land on the house. It's in our backyard but no fence.
Chicago suburb. I notice letter was just left on our door like it was left on everyone's door like a brochure. Normal I would throw it out but I saw the village name on it so I opened it. Are name and address isn't on it.

Wait, so you moved into a house where the trees are dead and all of a sudden you get a note, with no address on it, saying you need to get them removed in 30 days or else? Have they made prior contact with you about this? Maybe you should call and ask the details and possibly the history of these warnings. Something is really fishy about this.

You're husband is likely overestimating. I'd check the letter you have, contact the local controlling govt that is telling you have to remove the trees and go from there.

The letter is legit because it has the letterhead of our village with the logo. It was addressed Dear Homeowner.
No we haven't receive any other letter that I know of.

No way they're over 100ft.

Even 100ft would be a massive and very old tree. And not that many types get to that height.
