My friend just took delivery of a 31 Yellowfin with twin 400 racing Mercs. Nutty what they do with outboards now.

Would this boat happen to be gray and white with white 400r's approx 29' long??

No way it runs 90 much less 100, that 350 Verado is heavy and has a lot of drag with the size of the lower unit. Mid 80's at best would be my guess, if he wanted to go fast he'd have a 300X and hopped up XS on it.

I don't know. It might hit 90 with proper trim.

My bass boat is 19'6" with a 200 hp Yahama on it. My top speed is 71.

my cousin has a bass cat with a 250 pro xs and he runs upper 70s. so that 350 could do that but that skeeter is heavy as all get out so I don't see it doing 80 plus. but who knows I have no intention on going that fast, my bay boat does 62 and I'm perfectly fine cruising at 45

Guess you've never heard of SCB bay boats then? They've been running 300s on them for years and now 400R's. They will run 80s-90s all day long.

I bet those things get lots of redneck attention at the launch. Nothing like a hairy knuckled handy, right?

Those SCB's are bad arse but they beat you to death in anything more than a gentle chop.

What is it with Texans and Mercs? Do they get 1/2 off deals on them or something?

Really, only the boat builders who go for ultra high performance use mercs. Yamaha and Suzuki are extremely popular here. Some mercs for sure but more Yamahas than anything. I see way more mercs on the bayous in Louisiana than anything else.

You see a lot of Yamahas and zukes in La mostly because of their commercial warranty program. At the end of the day all of the modern outboards are pretty good, very few make junk.

I think the old days when champion was the boat to have on Toledo Bend the joke was,
"I had a nightmare that I woke up in my champion surrounded by Skeeters."

Back then I saw more Texans in Skeeters with Yamahas on back of them. They sounded like little skeeters buzzing by when they would run wide open near you with a rooster or skeeter tail.

I was a marshal for the Bass Masters classic back in 2011 out of Segnette. I drew a fairly popular bass pro to marshal for on the Thursday morning. As luck would have it he ended up with a camera guy in his boat so I had to jump in a designated "chase boat" to follow him around in all day to make sure he followed rules.
That chase boat was a local guy with a 19 ft Bullet with a 300x and 30+ pitch chopper prop. The bass pro was never going to be able to shake us on that day and I remember at least once where the chase boat driver said we hit 96 mph... it purred at 70 mph and accelerated from there like you would not believe. you really have to know how to drive a chine walker though.

My current bay set-up has hit 66 + with a 250 SHO with two guys and tourney load, PLENTLY speed for me and no chine walk.
