I know this thread will devolve into a Ford v Chevy v Dodge crap show.

That said, I am not interested in a Dodge and I am not interested in a first run 2017 F250 because of the issues that normally accompany year one productions.

I am looking at a 2016 Chevy 2500 HD LTZ.

Does anyone have any experience with this truck, the Duramax and the Allison tranmission? Good/Bad...whatever. I'd just like to get to OT wisdom on the topic.

Thanks!

Most reliable combo out there for diesels imo.

I had bad luck with a 2008 2500HD but i think it was due to GM being in financial trouble pre bailout.

My dash cracked, speakers went out, had water in the door from rain, oil pan needed to be resealed. Had 5 out of 8 glow plugs changed under warranty. Traded the truck in after 4 years and 60k miles of ownership.

That said it was less bulky than my 2012 F-250 i currently drive and the engine transmission seemed a bit smoother plus i found it carried a load in the bed better than ford. I am sure the newer ones are better just giving my experience.

I just noticed this on my 2007. Huge crack all the way across. How can that happen?

I will be the first to say that the fit and finish of GMs/Chevys leave a lot to be desired. Also they tend to have a lot of small nick nack shite go wrong with them. Ive had window motor go out and gave up on the running lights. That being said the motors and transmissions are things you dont have to worry about. Ill take the nick nack shite over replacing Dodges transmissions or Fords motor issues any day of the week.

A lot of trucks had the dash problems, that has been fixed, something to do with the compound mixture of the plastic.

Bayou your experience with the '08 is carbon copy with mine except for the oil pan.
When you had the '08 did you resolve the water in the door jam?
What was the deal with the speakers? I presume your talking about the door speakers.

Must give credit to the DMax/Allison combo...have not have any issues thus far 88,000 miles. Mine is still factory stock and from a working perspective handles everthing I put it through.

Don't know much about the new ones but I've got an '05 with the Duramax and Allison and I've had zero issues with the drive train. Very solid IMO.

Now the knick knack shite...that's a whole other story.

These sound like they stem from the same source. Water + electricity = zap

All of the Chevy speakers I have seen come with a foam surround though. Maybe they changed that on the new body styles

2003 Duramax with 176000 miles here. Only issues have been nits:
1. Electrical gremlins in the lights. It seems like it eats lights...tail lights, DRL bulbs, sidemarker, brake, turn signal, etc. To say I've gotten good at changing them would be an understatement.
2. Standard early 2000s instrument cluster issue with stepper motors that drive gauges. I just need to buy the motors and change them out.

Otherwise the truck has been a champ! Dad pulled a 5th wheel with it before he passed away...so far no issues with anything (except the operator error ones).

I have a 2015. I don't believe there were any changes b/w '15 and '16. Mine has been rock solid. There were two recalls (power steering hose clamp and something with odometer). Other than that I've had no issues at all in the year and a half (43,000 miles) I have owned it. Even pulled a few loads on my 24' gooseneck with it and it handled it just fine. Motor and tranny both are dependable.

All regulators/motors have been replaced in mine too, but it is an 04

It took them a hell of a long time to figure out how to get the tailgate handle surround to stick on

The wife's 08 Tahoe has a crack on the passenger side b/w the vents and air bag and I think another on the drivers side. She signed some facebook petition related to the dash cracks the other day.
A friend just had his dash replaced in a 09 Tahoe. He said the service person told him the original dash suppliers used crappy plastic or some such? I have a Toyota and a ford - no dash issues.

Oh and we've ahd the stealership replace all door lock actuators once, I've done the drivers door a second time. Fuggin GM. The best part on my 04 Z was the Bose system.

The 2017 F250 will have the same drivetrain that is in the current gen.

The 6.7 Ford is the best diesel engine going, although the DuramaxAllison combo is excellent.

The previous gen GM switchgear was horrible. Door handles, interior bits,PW lock actuators, front hubs; were all shite.

Rock-solid drivetrain and far superior to anything Ford had, although the later Ford gas motors were OK.

If I was buying gas today, I'd probably go GM. Diesel, I would do Ford.

I looked close at the GM interiors and I'm not convinced they've made enough improvement, though time will tell.

2008 Duramax...fuel filter assembly had a crack/leak in it & had to be replaced. Dash has a small crack. It has ~135,000 miles. I pull a 34' 5th wheel with it a good bit. It pulls 13,000 lbs with no problem. The new ones can pull even more.
