The full duck season in the Coastal Zone will be Nov. 7-Dec. 6 and Dec. 19-Jan. 17.

In contrast to the Coastal Zone, the commission took seven days away from the first split in the West Zone, and tacked them to the end of the season.

The full duck season in the West Zone is Nov. 14-Dec. 6 and Dec. 19-Jan. 24. The youth season is Nov. 7 and Jan. 31.

The commission stuck with the department's proposal for the East Zone, establishing the season for Nov. 21-Dec. 6 and Dec. 19-Jan. 31. The youth season is Nov. 14 and Feb. 6.

The entire state will be closed to duck hunting Dec. 7-18.

I hunt east and west zone, so the whole state having the split at the same time is a blessing and a curse. In the past, I would hunt one or the other during the split, but I think the benefit of the whole state "going dark" will be better for the birds than my desire to squeeze in another weekend of hunting during the split on one side or the other.

I don't understand their logic but whatever I hunt coastal and east zone. Either way birds are dying and cold beer is getting drank at the camp

I think the dates look fine, but I hunt mostly east zone. Do the coastal guys want a later season? Whats everyone shaking their heads for?

Maybe they thinking blasting them early on the coast will push the birds back into the heart of the state... you know, where the real duck hunting takes place.

I always thought they wanted an earlier season since alot of their ducks showed up real early, like October.

Always has been a battle. I believe the voters wanted a later season. Duck number surveys have shown more ducks reside on the coast earlier.

Larry is the better person to answer.... I'll hunt opening weekend in the Coastal, then hunt my blind in East zone.

Love these dates. I hunt coastal and east. Last year our group killed limits on the coast EVERY hunt up until the big freeze on Jan 10th. After that, 1/2 or 3/4 limits. I love it!!!

I hunt 90% coastal and can't stand the dates.

Mainly due to the youth season. Due to the way the dates fall we have the special youth season (my understanding being to encourage youths to hunt) on HALLOWEEN!!!! How in the heck can we encourage new youth to hunt when they have to pick between the two. While many kids will pick hunting, why even put them in that position?

I have always been a proponent of the earlier opening in coastal zone. However I REALLY liked the way it went last year. I know the commission went against LReynolds recommendation on season dates, not sure why yet, plan on finding out.

I can live with Nov 7 opener, but it's awfully early I REALLY liked last year's set up.

L Reynolds proposed a Nov. 14 opening for the coastal zone, but the four guys on the commission, who all have marsh interests, voted against it.

Mississippi announced season dates Tuesday. No big surprises, except white-fronted geese limit is 3 per day this year.

I just sent a letter to the commission members asking why they voted for the earlier opener. They likely have a good reason other than marsh interests, I would like to know why. I sure thought last year was about perfect as far as season framework.
