No I didn't shoot it. Forgot my checkbook! HAHA! I was hunting at my Ole Lady's Paw Paw's place. I did get a nice 8 point cull buck.

It's tightly managed which I like. Can't just got run out and shoot a trophy whenever you want. If I would have shot that deer I probably would have been in a hell of a lot more trouble then having to pay.

No way, I would shoot that bruiser and pay whatever. Divorce would be acceptable too

Really, you would pay $5k to shoot a trophy deer??

Do those horns taste any different than the horns on a 8 pt cull buck??

I just dont get the whole high fenced,South Texas drive up to your deer and shoot.. I'd rather sit in a tree and and wait for one to walk up on me.

or shoot one swimming out of a boat..(beat you to it motherfrickers)

I agree. I was just saying, me in that situation that the OP was in, I would have had a tough time laying off the trigger.

I tell you what I didn't get it at first but when you see the way these places are managed it's something to see to watch deer grow and mature and track them. I've hunted 12 hours in the woods in a MS and not seen a thing and been alright. I underatand some people don't have the time and resources to hunt and this is their option.

Prices range. If you want to shoot a good 8 maybe even a cull buck then 5K would be a price for that plus you get it butchered and ready to go. Plus food and accomidation.

Now when you look at a 6 1/2 year old 12 point trophy dear that is symetrical and bred and held out for that then it can jump up to 15K to 25K. Age Weight B&C all play a part in it.

A lot of these place bring in deer also to breed there that can cost the same amount. It's so much to it. I was shocked at what all really goes into it.

So much more than what the average hunter sees. It's a full time job for some of those outfitters.

I'm not doubting that there is a lot that goes into it..I have a number of friends that have ranches in Texas and they all all full time ranchers that live there year round and maintain the property and animals. I also have frieds that have property in Bama, La and Ms and a lot goes into their leases as well.

South Texas hunting like this is just not hunting to me...I have no desire to pay $5k, $15k, or $25k and drive a truck up to a deer close enough to pet him just to hang his head on my wall.

Not that I'm cheap cause I would gladly pay that kind of money to have my own lease, hunt deer and shoot as many as the law allows me to all season.
