Pressed in bearings and takes like 20 tons to push them out IIRC. Take the spindle to a shop

Are you replacing the wheel bearing or the hub? Front or rear?

If front, its pretty easy. If rear, well thats take some more work if they are like a GX which I'm assuming is similar to a 4 runner. You'll need access to a press for either the front or rear.

If replacing the front hub and bearing, LINK and you will not need a press.

If it's a self contained bearing and hub, it'll take you longer to take out your tools than it will to replace it. I did my Sport Trac a few years ago. Repair quote was $800. Part cost $180 and it took me less than half an hour.

Now if you've got to press a bearing, that's a little different. I had to take my rear hub to a friend and he had a bitch of a time getting it out.

I know you're not in Lafayette, but there's a shop in Abbeville that replaced my hub assembly in my 08 Silverado for $60.

I bought the part at autozone and brought to him to change.

I replaced all four on my old Suburban with by BIL, two at a time. He knew more about it than I did, however. Wouldn't have jumped into it myself because I'd never done it, but with someone who has it turned out to be an easy job. Hardest part was getting all the sensors set right.

If you don't know anyone who can help you, and have any discomfort at all, take it to a shop you trust other than a dealership. The discount there will be significant. Dealership repair shops are for rich people and old ladies.

I've done it on a Dodge Grand Caravan. The only 4X4 I worked on was a 1992 ford f-150 and that was a PITA to get the hub bearing apart and put back together correctly.

Dude would be dollars and time ahead to buy the pre-assembled units. The Koyo bearing alone from NAPA is more than the pre-assembled units from the link I provided, which included the same Koyo bearings, that I bought. I've done the research.

And if dead set on DIY, watch a few youtube videos on how to. It's all out there.

Any independent shop should be able to do this at half the cost.

I wouldn't do it my self, not because I can't, it's just I hate dealing with wheel bearing and bearing grease.

Mitchel book labor is 2.5 - 2.7 hours plus alignment. Figure the labor rate at a dealer around 110-120 per hour. alignment there runs about 90-100 I'm guessing. They will only use their parts which are definitely high.

That's outrageous!

Wife has a 2003 Toy 4Runner 4x4. Same type bearing (pressed onto the hub).

I went here: Bluepit Bearings and got the whole assembly. It was plug and play.

If in doubt on how the installation goes..Search Youtube for the installation procedure. Lately that's been a godsend for me.

Youtube it. You've done the part of checking against dealer prices. You'll be surprised at how simple the job is. They gave you an average price though. I paid $1000 and $1300 for that job.
