In my press conference thread, it is listed as another option they are considering. Any oil people want to elaborate on how this works and if it could be successful at this depth?

I think in a junk shot you reconfigure the bop to accept and out side input directly into the well. They then pump chunks of tire and other chunks of junk into the well. They are hoping to clog the riser crimp and bop like a clogged drain pipe.

The only way that this seems like it could work to me is if they were to drill a hole behind the crimp in the pipe and inject cement there where the crimp would catch it but those guys are smarter than me.

maybe not.

if methane crystals were implicated in the original problem, why did they think methane crystals would not be around the well area when they lowered the cement conduit/cap?

Please stop with the ignorance. Two entirely different types of "methane crystals".

The ones you incorrectly inferred were down there already were hydrates formed when the gas from the well mixed with the sea water when the box was lowered over the leak. The hydrates they speculated about in the article could have happened, but it would have happened in the the production liner.
