be loss because of the moratorium? Will Zippy bailout those who are going to lose their jobs?
What will the moratorium prove.

No way our president had to shut down the whole gulf.

I'm plenty angry with BP too. But our president just crushed our domestic energy industry with misguided information.

do I need to remind you that he was about to open up a lot more water for offshore drilling right before this happened?

or are you going to hate him no matter what he does?

Stone Energy is in the process of shutting down three shallow water rigs. The new safety regulations are difficult if not impossible to implement in the short term.

He could shut down BP until the investigation is complete. Shut down deep water for 6 months.

Increase the reporting requirements and inspections of other producers, but not shut down the entire industry.

He agreed to open up new areas for exploration, but has never agreed to production. Get your facts straight.

Horizon was an exploratory well, no?

I don't hate him. I prayed for him today. He is our leader. I do think he is misguided on this topic. He is punishing a lot of people here that don't deserve to be punished.

Baby with the bathwater syndrome.

I don't get it.

if you think that's what's happening, then, no, you don't get it. The 6 month moratorium is to allow investigators to find out what exactly happened so we can insure it never happens again.

I'm sure if the investigation concludes faster than that, he'll lift the moratorium early.

This is for deepwater wells. Was this accident a 1/100 chance? or a 1/100,000 chance? Nobody knows.

The well is still gushing and everyday BP says they have no clue on this and that because its never been attempted at such depths. So we should allow more drilling at deepwater wells when nobody has a clue how to stop the one already gushing destroying one of the most productive ecosystems in the world?

Macondo was the well. The Horizon was the rig. Please get your facts correct or stick to meteorology.

The people in the industry know what happened. Why should it take govt 6 month to investigate? Our president has surrounded himself with the wrong people.

Either way, it was exploratory.

yeah, that's a good point, and I agree. It's not like BP would ever try to cover anything up.

In all seriousness, it could potentially take less than 6 months, I imagine. There's no reason for the sky-is-falling mentality.
