That's pretty cool.

What is even cooler is that Costner has not been out there beating his chest or flapping his gums over the last 15 years talking about what a great person he is for funding this reaearch.

Nothing more than an oily water separator. All vessels of 300 gross tons or more already have these aboard to separate oil from bilge water.

when the news has been saying this morning in NOLA is the BP is talking with them about these devices for both blue water and brown water. Maybe we can get some new technology on this thing finally.

Exactly. He's always shown himself to be a classy guy. Now time to put this thing to the real test. I'm pumped about the potential!

On the news clip showing Costner's machine it
appeared to be a large centrifuge. We had a small
one (deLaval) @ our comm site in Italy when I was
in the Air Force. We used it to recycle the oil
from our 250kw generators. It is a very efficient
machine!

so why not make about 100 of these and have them running full-time around the marshes and near the coastline?

I mean, it seems pretty elementary to me....what am I missing?

I suspect that there's some manufacturing time involved... What are the power requirements?

But if there were a couple of dozen(?) (seperation capacity?) of these things on barges/ships in the GOM, it seems like that would be a good thing.

Because hay costs something less than $23 million (or whatever the price tag is on one of these things.)

I wish there were 10, or 100, or 1,000 of these things sitting in a warehouse waiting to be deployed. But that's not how it works....

You're probably right, but I figure that a combination of several different methods (like this one) might keep this from being a death sentence to the Gulf Coast.

there is no true journalism anymore, much less the correct facts.

Fact: The machine was invented by Costner's brother.

His brother must be a scientist.
