I'm having my surgery here in a few hours and wanted to know what everyone's experience with it is. How bad was your pain level after?

Got it done when I was 7. Worked out well.
That is all.
That is all.

Damn, how old are you?
I thought that was a kid's surgery.

i had them taken out at 25, it was the worst 10 days of my life, i lost 12 pounds because i couldnt eat or drink anything, pain meds would work for about 30 mins.
i ended up having to go back to the hospital to get fluids because i was so dehydrated.
Dr told me my tonsils and adenoids were the largest she had ever removed, so that was why it was so bad.
i had heard that the older you get, the worse it is, and this is true.
ive had 10-15 surgeries in my life and this was by far the worst

Tell them to give pain pills, not liquid. That shite burns like hell.

My 11 yo daughter got it done this last Summer. All I can say is drink lots of water and make sure you don't fall behind on pain meds. The 3rd/4th day is the worst. Once you get past the 4th day, you'll be good. This afternoon, when you get home, you'll feel fine. Take the pain meds even if you feel fine. You don't want to be having to play catch up on pain.

I was 16. I've had numerous surgeries since then and it is by far the most painful thing I've ever experienced. I missed 2-3wks of school, didn't eat for a week or two. I sipped on warm liquid mashed potatoes. Lost a couple pants sizes for sure. I remember at the time saying that you couldn't pay me a million dollars to go thru that again.

Not to freak you out, but it was one of the worst pains I've ever been through, I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It didn't help that is I also had my deviated septum fixed at the same time and couldn't breath through my nose.
I hear its really different for everyone, some people do well, and others have a miserable experience like I did.
Good luck!

Had mine done at 35. It was no big deal. Make sure to gargle with a hydrogen peroxide after EVERY meal. The one time I had a lot of pain was when I forgot to do that.

Once upon a time,
I still have mine.
The End.

I had mine out, mid-twenties. One of the most miserable experiences, ever. The pain meds had me hallucinating all night, so I didn't really sleep. One week in, I passed out flat on my back. I think I was only out a few minutes, but when I woke up I could taste blood. I went to the bathroom with the phone, to call my wife for help. I couldn't spit the blood out fast enough, looked like a murder scene in the bathroom. Fortunately, the bleeding stopped after a few minutes. I sat, motionless, on the edge of the bed for about 7-8 hours, until my wife came home from work. I didn't eat, didn't drink, got dehydrated, lost weight, etc... Once I finally recovered, I went for my follow-up. The ENT said, 'Man, those were some deep-rooted tonsils!'... Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine!
