"Houston is a concrete jungle!"

NO Cultcha!!!"

quote:

• An ever-expanding world-class arts scene, including a $450 million redevelopment of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (the largest museum of its kind in the Southwest), a walkable Museum District comprised of 20 institutions, and a 17-block Theater District.

Indeed, only New York has a greater concentration of theater seats. Houston is also one of the rare U.S. cities to have resident professional companies in each of the performing arts' genres: ballet, theater, symphony and opera, the latter of which has won Emmy, Grammy and Tony awards.

• A staggering culinary stage, with more than 10,000 restaurants representing 70-plus countries and American regions. Food & Wine magazine recently crowned Houston "America's newest capital of great food," and the James Beard Foundation awarded Underbelly's Chris Shepherd "Best Chef Southwest" last year.

• A brimming blend of cultures, with more than 90 languages spoken

• Base of operations for the world famous and universally loved tigerdroppings.com, meeting place for the most cultured group of wealthy and creative people from around the country and world

Doesn't Houston have more acreage in general than all US cities? Curious of the ratio of parks vs total acreage.

When you have to come out and defend it for seemingly no reason whatsoever, there's probably something wrong with it.

meh. it's also has more total acreage than any of the top 10 most populous US cities

and it can only boast this claim because of huge parks like George Bush that are pretty far removed from the city proper.

The Houston Grand Opera is incredible. I don't even like opera but can appreciate the talent they bring to the stage.

BREC probably has more in Baton Rouge.

Not at all. My point was that the OP seemed a bit insecure actually.

He just posted an article. I don't see how he is trying to defend anything.

True. You could also say that the general population is only able to use about a 3rd of Memorial park, and that 3rd includes a golf course. A huge part of memorial is nothing but dense forest. Great mountain biking but not everyone in Houston is able to take advantage.

There is a pretty legit masterplan being proposed now tho. It would include a land bridge.

Houston does have some nice parks that are only getting better.

If Houston would ban all Billboards then it would be a better city to visitors. Not a very scenic city.

The Buffalo Bayou project really has come along nicely as far as adding green space in the center of the city

How the hell is Scruffy supposed to read those street signs?

"Well, you are going to take a left a chicken scratch street, drive 3 blocks, and then take a right onto sideways squiggles avenue."

Parts of Houston are nice places to live, but I wouldn't want to visit. Sort of like Birmingham.
