WW2 buffs, ever hear of a General Snap?

I was recently in Bavaria, Southern Germany touring some of the Palaces. One of the palaces, Linderhof, did not take any damage during the war. The guide said that an American General "Snap" protected the palace and became a local hero for doing so. Does anyone have access to any info on Mr. Snap? Or know of a site that I could find some more information? Thanks.

Ironically, my grandfather, who was a Brigadier General, went by Pop

He was in charge of the Pop Platoon if I remember correctly.

I'd imagine there was something lost in translation or the locals gave him a nickname or something to that effect.

I heard that the platoon under him was made up completely of ex-pat orientals. But they were always fresh and ready for battle.
They were call the Rice Krispies.

Well, this didn't go as planned.

I wonder if he meant Spaatz.
I'm guessing this is what they probably meant. I've never heard of a Gen. Snap. Plus, Gen. Spaatz was overall commander of all bombers in Europe so he would have been in a position to keep a place from being bombed if he wanted to.

I also dont think Spaatz did the palace any specific favors. There was at one point a move by the UK air ministry to bomb lower priority targets as a morale breaker.
Spaatz championed the idea of the Oil industry being No.1 target with the german railroad being No.2. He reasoned there wasnt a hell of a lot of benefit from blowing up the Koln Cathedral and a bunch of palaces. having recently visited the Koln Cathedral, I am glad it worked out that way.

There were three US Generals in WWII whose names started with Sn.." Two in the Army Air Force and one in the Medical Corps. None of whom served in Bavaria. Tour guides often get stories garbled.

Could not have been any of those I think.
Snavely was in the USAAF but commanded night fighters
Sneed also was in the USAAF served in the Pacific
Snyder was a Marine who it looks like never left the states.
Had to be Spaatz.

I've never heard of Spaatz or anyone saving a city from being bombed. He's about the only one who would have been in a position to do so though who also has a name remotely close to "Snap".
