Cliff notes. Cost is minimal, dealing more with principle.

Place of business called my wife to confirm her doctor's appointment. It was a live person.

Wife arrived at her doctor's appointment. Unfortunately, the person that reminded my wife of her appointment provided her with the wrong time. She ended up being 1 hour late based upon the information that was provided to her. Receptionist said they could fit her in, but not until a couple of hours later, which did not work for her schedule.

Ended up receiving a bill in the mail for "missed appointment."

To top it off, the specialist that she normally sees is no longer employed with this practice. Her appointment had been switched to a Nurse Practitioner without her being notified until she arrived in person for her appointment.

WWYD? My wife has already said she will no longer go to this business and will follow her doctor to his new place of business.

Just reading the title I said yes. Read the circumstances and said no, she shouldn't pay.

It's not really a missed appointment. She made the appointment that was made for her.

No. Do they pay you for making you wait for an hour or more?

I run a docs office, and I wouldn't pay that.

That being said, I can't tell you how many times per day I have to hear patients blame staff for their own screw ups. After a while, it's very difficult to determine who is full of shite, so I generally defer to the customer for PR's sake. But patients lie about that shite all the time.

I agree, but since there is no accountability of other than she said | she said, it may fall upon deaf ears.

Seems like a bad business practice to me. I can understand having a policy in place, however my wife has been a patient of this former doctor's care for well over 5 years. A little special consideration and discretion, in my opinion, would have been more appropriate.

I don't doubt this to not be true. However, I'm 100 % certain in this situation this is not the case as she took time out of her day, i.e. left work to ensure that she was there on time.

And if she were staying with that practice I'd tell you to (politely) tell that to the administrator. But she's leaving, so just don't pay it. Most likely will result in a small balance write off for the practice anyway.

Send them a bill for her lost time and mental anguish, just make sure it's something reasonable, like $50,000.

Absolutely not if they told her the wrong time. But this is why automated systems probably work better for this.

No and I'm sure a simple phone call and explanation and they would remove the bill.

It's just an auto generated mailer for the deadbeats that no show. Call the doctors office and work it out. They'll waive it.

It was probably an honest mistake on the practice's part. "No Show Fees" are usually given a pass the first time around, then usually assessed if there is no attempt by the patient to reschedule. Just ask to talk to office manager and tell them your issue. It was clearly their fault. They should waive it if they cared about customer service. If not, tell them you are taking your services to another provider.

If I screw up and accept the no-show payment policy, yes, I pay. In this situation, no, I fight it.
