It didn't take long for Emil Knodell, of Bellville, Texas, to buy a chest for $100 that he soon discovered had a hidden drawer of treasure.

quote:

"When you look at the front of it, it looks like it has three obvious drawers with molding on the base, but the bottom has a secret drawer that opens up," Knodell said. Inside, he discovered currency, jewelry with emeralds and diamonds, a lock of hair, military dog tags and even Civil War memorabilia. But Knodell said he never thought about keeping the items in the piece of furniture he just bought.

quote:

"I bought the chest drawers. I didn’t buy those things. If I kept them, I would never feel right about it. There would be a cloud over the whole thing. It’s a feeling more than anything else," Knodell said.

What would you do if you were in this Man's shoes? Would you give back all this stuff to the original owner?

I wouldn't have gone public about it.

I realize that it was hidden, but you would think they would have heard all of that rattling around when moving it.

Put me down on the a-hole tote board. I'd keep it.

100% keeping most of that shite.

Would give dog tags, hair, and stuff like that to the family and tell them that's all that was in there.

Those jewels would be the downpayment for my new house

Everything else I would give back or offer to split with them

ETA:

If there was historical documents from the Civil War, I'd donate them to a museum or something. I just want them jewels!

I would give them back, at worst I would split them with the people.

I probably would not have gone public.

I'd give back some of the obvious family memorabilia and split the profits of the sale of the other stuff 70 me 30 them.

This sounds similar to what I'd do.

Such BS. I hope you forget your cell phone at lunch and go back only to find someone has found it and kept it. People suck these days.

So you call him out on being a sucky person, only to wish he loses his cell phone.

Sounds legit.

If you bought a tract of land and it turns out there was an oil reserve on it, would you give all profits to the person you bought it from?
