Would you ever permanently move from the South?

The only reasons I could think of that I would consider staying would be my parents. Most anything else I can get somewhere else, including better weather (no hurricanes, no 95 degree temps with 90% humidity, tornadoes, etc). I can watch my sports teams on TV. And food is a wash, I like all food.

Anyone experience this and how has it worked out for you? Do you plan on moving back eventually or will you stay put now that you've left?

I have never lived outside of the south outside of two months in St. Thomas. I feel drawn to the western United States for some reason. Would love to live in Colorado or possibly Idaho. If the opportunity ever presents itself somehow, I'm heading west.

I would love to live in NY or Seattle.

Houston is okay, but the only southern city I have any interest long term is New Orleans. I'm a bigger city person though, certainly not for all

Exactly how I feel

I spent a summer between h/s and college living in Colorado while working construction. I've been drawn to the Rockies ever since

Moved to pittsburgh for 4 years for work. Lived it but food sucked.

I hate the heat but I just moved back. Nice to be closer to family and old friends.

I also feel drawn to the west. Depends where my kids end up but I could definitely leave the south.

I lived on the northern Tier over a decade...including 3 years in Alaska...

The south is superior in every way except for hooliganism...of which the north east/new England have plenty of.

Lower cost of living, better recreation, more attractive women, longer warm season, I could go on...

Seattle? Who the hell would want to live in that shitshow of a city? Fast food people getting $15 an hour is dumb. Btw, I've always lived in Louisiana and I'm fine if I'm here the rest of my life. I can visit places if I get the urge

I'd consider trying it out for a few months before making permanent decisions. I live in the mid-west right now and I'm definitely staying here permanently

The SO's family is from Oregon. She's wanting me to visit there with her soon and talks about looking for a vacation home there.

The nature looks relaxing and if I can smoke all I want without repercussion, may be a real possibility.
