When it rains, it pours.

Except when it lightly rains AKA drizzles

Some of my old teachers would use "You're a day late and a dollar short" to kids who tried to turn in late HW.

I loathe it.

Then why did you turn in your homework late?

They said it to the other kids. I always turned in my HW on time. My HW grades were the reason I passed

Whenever someone says this to me, I say in response "but what you mean is you don't like it, but are powerless to change it"

Sometimes when you challenge their position, what it is becomes not what it was.

Then next time you turn in late HW, slip a George Washington in with the assignment you're turning in

No. If I tell you you're working Saturday and you object, I'm gonna reply with "it is what it is". You're still working Saturday. Same applies to you not getting a pay raise.
You can wax philosophical all you want, but the result won't change cause...it is what it is.

I hate the sports cliche "analysts" use. "When 'x' team is playing their best they are the best in the country."

Incorrectly used "Rubber Match".

It should be "Rubber Game of the Match"
