Workplace Violence
Posted by Jax-Tiger on 6/23/15 at 1:13 pm00
I'm taking a test. The question is:
Jan was returning to her desk after lunch and nearly ran into her co-worker Josh. Josh grabbed her by the shoulders, loudly exclaimed, "Watch where you're going!" and quickly walked off muttering to himself.
Obviously, Jan was shaken, but does this qualify as workplace violence?
Yes? Or No?
In the good ol' days, I would have said, "Hell, no". But in todays world, I'm not sure. I mean, I recognize violence when I see it, but it seems that we keep redefining things and now have emotional assault and micro aggressions to contend with.

Simple battery may include any form of non-consensual harmful or insulting contact, regardless of the injury caused.

So you would be fine with your wife or mother's male co-worker doing that to her?

No, not work place violence, But Jan will soon file a HR complaint against Josh for "Caressing Her Shoulders" and Josh will be written up and then terminated.

Yes. You have no right to defend your safety, silly.

No, I'm not, but that doesn't make it workplace violence.

Technically speaking, this is a case of workplace douchebaggery, with Josh being the bagger and Jan being the baggee.
