Should you take a recovery week after a few months of continuous lifting?

What says the OT?

No. It's too damn hard to get back. Active rest. Same stuff but lighter weight.

Do the exact opposite. Lift twice as much with more weight. Your gainz will be huge.

Poo is right. Go down to 50 to 60% of 1 rep max. Focus more on some light cardio as well.

yes - and force yourself to do yoga and stretch. I recommend getting Fountain of Youth Yoga with Tony Horton and doing the original P90X stretch routine - alternate days. I curse and hate Yoga before and during the session, but I love Yoga after.

Sorry, Mr. Pu, I was looking at the picture and not your actual name. My deepest apologies.

Apology accepted. Carry on and don't make a big permanent deal about it in 30 years.

Do the exact opposite of this. Everyone should take a week break from strenuous exercise - the question is: when do I take that week off?

Usually, there are two thoughts on when to take that break: 1) the older you are, you breaks should be more frequent (i. e. In you 40's take a break every 4 to 6 weeks; in your 20's every 8 to 12 weeks); and 2) listen to your body (if you're feeling weak, tired, and mentally out of it, take a break).

Not taking a full week away from the iron pile will eventually lead to an injury and will prevent your muscles from ever being able to fully recover.

I disagree. Sometimes diet is the cause from being weak and not being able to "recover"

Yes. This is also referred to as de-load week.

All you are doing is dialing back both the volume and tonnage of your workout.

This is a general principle applied with a number of undulating periodization cycles for resistance training.

This has proven to be highly effective in improving future strength and muscular gains and allowing you to mentally recover from the grind of the previous few months.
